Spurs v Man United Tips: Can Kane inflict Solskjaer’s first defeat?

Harry Kane

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer faces the man who could replace him as Man United manager this afternoon, as he takes his Red Devils to Mauricio Pochettino and Tottenham Hotspur.

Poch has long been touted for the Old Trafford gig. But he’ll have his sights set firmly on closing the gap to Liverpool today. So can Spurs keep the pressure on against a rejuvenated United?

Or will the visitors complete another Wembley raid nine months after their last? We can’t wait to find out.

Match odds

Both sides are in electric form. United have won their last five on the bounce, while Spurs are looking for a fourth win and a fourth clean sheet in a row.

It’s difficult to split them – but our traders have had a go. Tottenham are even-money for their fourth straight win at home to the Red Devils, while it’s 12/5 for an away victory.

You can back the draw at 13/5, with a repeat 3-0 victory for Pochettino’s men chalked up at 18/1.

Talking Tactics

United are much-improved under Solskjaer. Part of that is down to the trust shown in the bustling front three of Jesse Lingard, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial.

The trio’s good form means that Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku will likely have to settle for cameo roles off the bench once again.

Paul Pogba has taken on a more vital role in behind, and it’ll be Harry Winks’ job to stifle the Frenchman’s influence this afternoon.

If Spurs can do that and marry it up with their potent attacking quartet of Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli, Son Heung-min and Harry Kane, then they should be in business.

Chelsea showed how to contain the Lilywhites in the Carabao Cup in midweek, though. United may adopt similar tactics here, although their defensive line-up leaves a lot to be desired.

Goalscorer odds

Captain Kane doesn’t have the best record against Man United. But he still tops the goalscorer charts at 21/20 to net Anytime and 7/2 to Score First.

Son is a 7/5 chance, while Lucas Moura could be utilised from the bench here, and is 15/2 to follow up his August brace against the Red Devils by scoring last.

For the visitors, Rashford has three goals in four Premier League matches under the new boss. We go 21/10 about him doing the business in North London.

Fellow countryman Lingard loves it at Wembley and is a 3/1 shot continue his good run at the national stadium.
