Arkle update: Lalor new favourite with Le Richebourg ruled out

It’s all change at the head of the betting for the 2019 Arkle Chase at Cheltenham, with Lalor replacing Le Richebourg as the favourite for the race.

Joseph O’Brien’s charge had been well supported for the day one contest following an impressive 7l success in the Irish Arkle at Leopardstown.

But an injury has ruled the six-year-old out for the rest of the season, allowing November Novices’ Chase winner Lalor to take up favouritism at 11/4.

Defi Du Seuil could now be rerouted to the Arkle instead of the JLT, with our traders giving the Phillip Hobbs-trained runner a quote of 4/1.

An open field also includes Glen Forsa at 9/2, 11/2 shot Duc des Genievres and 9/1 chance Kalashnikov, who has twice been turned over at odds-on this season.

Nicola McGeady of Ladbrokes said: “Now that the favourite has come out of the Arkle we suspect JP McManus will send Defi Du Seuil there instead of the JLT.

Sir Erec has shortened again for the Triumph Hurdle and at this rate, looks to be one of the shortest priced-favourites heading to the Festival.”

**Arkle Challenge Trophy

11/4 Lalor, 4 Defi Du Seuil, 9/2 Glen Forsa, 11/2 Duc des Genievres, 9 Kalashnikov, 10 Cilaos Emery, 14 bar
