Bayern Munich v Liverpool Tips: End of the road for Reds in Europe?

Manchester United, Spurs and Manchester City have all booked their place in the Champions League quarter-finals. Now it’s down to Liverpool to complete the Premier League quartet.

The Reds couldn’t find a way past Bayern Munich at Anfield three weeks ago, with Sadio Mane spurning two golden chances in a 0-0 first-leg stalemate.

Can they make amends in Munich tonight? Or will Bayern continue their march towards a first Champions League Final since winning the competition in 2013?

Match Odds

Bayern couldn’t have warmed up for the second-leg in better fashion. A 5-1 thrashing of Borussia Monchengladbach was followed by a 6-0 home win over Wolfsburg at the weekend.

They’re 11/10 to chalk up a 22nd CL home win in 27 matches. Liverpool can be backed at 12/5, although it’s the Draw (12/5) which makes most appeal based on the Reds’ recent form.

Jurgen Klopp’s men have shared the spoils in five of their last eight matches and have not tasted victory on the road at Europe’s top table since defeating Man City in the quarter-finals last year.

The hosts are also 3/10 on the Double Chance, or 10/11 to qualify.

Talking Tactics

Virgil van Dijk missed the first-leg through suspension. He’s back alongside Joel Matip in a four-man defence which also includes Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Both full-backs provide a real threat down the flanks. But they’ll have to measure their attacks or risk getting caught out by the pace and trickery of Franck Ribery, Serge Gnabry and David Alaba.

Ultimately Liverpool’s chances could hinge on the consistency of their forward trio. Mo Salah, Roberto Firmino and Mane have all squandered big chances in recent weeks. They won’t be afforded such luxuries tonight.

Fabinho’s battle with Thiago Alcantara in the middle of the park should also be one to savour.

Goalscorer Odds

Liverpool may have the fab-three. But Bayern boast a man in such good European form that he could probably solve the Brexit crisis. Robert Lewandowski has hit eight CL goals so far this season.

That includes a hat-trick of braces in the group stage. He’s 11/10 Anytime or 11/2 to Score 2 or More. Elsewhere, ex-Arsenal man Gnabry has two goals in two matches and is 21/10 Anytime.

Salah leads the charge for the Reds at 15/8. Yet it’s Mane who’s in better nick. The Senegalese superstar has eight goals in his last nine matches and is 11/2 First or 21/10 Anytime.

Van Dijk has also developed a habit of coming good in the big games this season. Liverpool’s captain fantastic is 9/1 to follow up his brace against Watford the other week with another goal here.
