Grand National ante-post: Tiger Roll 5/1, Lake View Lad now 20s
The 2019 Grand National may be less than three weeks away but already there’s a real possibility that Tiger Roll will become the shortest price National winner in 100 years.
Gordon Elliott’s charge won the Aintree showpiece 12 months ago and did this year’s preparations the world of good with a 22l success in the Glenfarclas Chase at Cheltenham.
That follows the same prep he enjoyed last year – and it has our traders running scared. The Tiger is currently 5/1 for a second Grand National win, with that price only likely to shorten.
Should he win at the current odds, the nine-year-old would become the shortest-price winner since Poethlyn for Harry Escott in 1919.
Can he get beat? One who looks an interesting outsider is Lake View Lad. Nick Alexander’s charge has been the subject of good support following his third in the Ultima at Cheltenham.
He’s now available at 20/1, and with three-time winning National owner Trevor Hemmings behind him, the Oscar gelding would appear to have every chance.
Nicola McGeady of Ladbrokes said: “Out of the horses who ran at Cheltenham, Trevor Hemmings’ Lake View Lad has been popular since coming third in the Ultima for the Grand National.”
