Montenegro v England tips: Three Lions to roar again?

Published:

After a superb 5-0 win over Czech Republic to open their Euro 2020 qualifying campaign on Friday, England look for a second win on the spin in Montenegro tonight.

Victory in Podgorica this evening would really put the Three Lions in command of Group I, particularly as Bulgaria and Montenegro drew their opening clash.

Can Gareth Southgate’s men produce another classy performance? We’ve got all the key odds…

Match odds

England have only won one of their last four meetings against Montenegro , but they go into this one as 1/3 favourites.

The hosts are a lengthy 9/1, while 15/4 says England draw in Podgorica for the third trip in a row.

Talking tactics

Southgate has a couple of minor injury concerns. Eric Dier will miss out after getting injured early in Friday’s win, so Ross Barkley or Declan Rice will deputise.

Jordan Henderson and Jadon Sancho have minor niggles too.  Should Sancho miss out, Callum Hudson-Odoi could be in line for his first England start.

Montenegro will have to try and do what Czech Republic couldn’t – keep England out. The Three Lions had 66% possession on Friday, and tonight will follow a similar vibe.

The hosts will have to handle the movement of Harry Kane and Friday’s hat-trick hero Raheem Sterling, while trying to shut down the energy of Ben Chilwell and Kyle Walker on the flanks.

Goalscorer odds

Tottenham talisman Kane heads up the first goalscorer betting at 12/5, with Sterling priced up at 7/2 to break the deadlock for the second game in succession.

Hudson-Odoi will be out for his first senior international goal, and the Chelsea man is 5/1 to make it 1-0 tonight.

Looking further down the betting, there’s 9/1 about Barkley to net first, while 16s says Harry ‘Slabhead’ Maguire grabs the opener.

And what about another Sterling hat-trick? The Manchester City star is 40/1 to take home tonight’s match ball.
