2019 London Marathon: What, when and how to watch?

The London Marathon returnsfor the 39th time this weekend.
It sees long-distance running’s elite athletes take to theroads alongside celebrities and complete novices in the 26.2 mile race.
So here is all you need to know ahead of the race, includingthe odds on who could actually win the thing!
When is the London Marathon?
The London Marathon takes place on Sunday 28th April 2019.The start times will be staggered throughout the morning and are as follows:
- 9:05am – Elite Wheelchair Races
- 9.10am – World Para Athletics Marathon Championships Ambulant Athletes
- 9.25am – The Elite Women’s Race
- 10:10am – The Elite Men’s Race, British Athletics and England Athletics Marathon Championships
- 10:10am – Main race, once the professionals have headed off
What TV Channel is the London Marathon on?
You can catch all the action live in the UK on BBC1 and BBC2,with coverage kicking off in the morning prior to the first start time.

What are the odds?
The large majority of runners will be doing their bit forcharity or an achievement to tick off the bucket list, but there are an elitegroup who actually want to win it.
In the women’s race Mary Keitany is the 13/8 favourite to get her second victory after triumphing in 2017. She is then followed by 2018 winner Vivian Cheruiyot at 3/1.
Third in the running is Brigid Kosgei at 4/1 after she came up once place short last year.
Mo Farah is the most successful British track athlete in modern Olympic history. After finishing third last year he’s 4/1 second favourite to win his first London Marathon this time.
But it’s men’s world-record holder Eliud Kipchoge who leads the field. Kipchoge is unbeaten in three London Marathon’s and is a short 8/13 to make it four in a row.
Last year’s runner up Tola Shura Kitata is a little further out at 9/1 to score victory.
