La Liga Tips: No Aspas, no chance for Celta Vigo?

Iago Aspas

Barcelona’s win over Atletico Madrid last weekend means the title race is almost certainly over, but the relegation battle is still going strong.

There are only four points separating Girona in 14th from 18th-placed Villarreal. Celta Vigo are only two points above the Yellow Submarine, but they could climb away from the drop-zone with a result at Atletico this weekend.

Our preview of the Spanish action starts at the Wanda Metroplitano…

Atletico Madrid v Celta Vigo (Saturday 5:30pm – ITV4/Eleven Sports 1)

Atletico are out of the Champions League and 11 points behind Barcelona with just seven games left. They may find it hard to be motivated, but Diego Simeone’s side are still 2/5 favourites here.

Celta Vigo did beat Atleti 2-0 at home in September, but they had Iago Aspas available then. The forward has seemed to be keeping them safe singlehandedly recently. But he’s suspended for this one, which is a massive blow for the hosts.

The visitors are out at 15/2, while they’re 19/10 to get something in the Double Chance.

With Diego Costa out for the hosts, Alvaro Morata should have a chance to impress. He’s 14/5 to grab the first goal.

Maxi Gomez has chipped in with 11 goals for Celta. We go 14/5 that he makes it 12 here.

Sevilla v Real Betis (Saturday 7:45pm – Eleven Sports 1/Premier 1)

The Seville derby always throws up some fireworks and this one should be no different. Sevilla are chasing a top-four finish, but a Betis win would put them right in the mix for a European spot too.

Sevilla are 7/10 to get a vital win. But Betis won this fixture last year and can’t be counted out at 18/5. There’s 29/10 about the draw.

Betis ran out 5-3 winners on their last visit to the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan. Think we’re in for another goalfest? Over 3.5 Goals is going for 7/5.

Wissam Ben Yedder could be the man to watch on the goal front. He’s already banged in 16 league goals and is 11/4 to get the opener.

Betis hero Joaquin scored the only goal in the reverse fixture in September. He’s 9/1 to end the scoring again.

Girona v Villarreal (Sunday 5:30pm – Eleven Sports 1)

It’s a six-pointer in Catalonia. And our traders can’t call it. Girona could haul themselves clear with a 8/5 home win. But Villarreal are just behind at 33/20.

With so much at stake, it wouldn’t be a surprise if it finished level. The draw is going for 23/10, with Draw and Both Teams to Score at 13/4.

Cristhian Stuani has done his part for Girona with 18 goals. It’s no surprise he’s 5/6 to score anytime or 12/5 first.

Villarreal will hope Karl Toko Ekambi can maintain his streak of four in four. The Cameroon international is 9/5 to get another here.
