Napoli v Arsenal betting tips: Can Gunners hold on in Naples?

| 17.04.2019

Arsenal were excellent in their 2-0 first-leg success over Napoli a week ago.

But that was at the Emirates, where the Gunners will fancy their chances of beating anyone. On the road, they’re a different team completely.

Can they see the job through against a rampant Napoli roared on by a bouncing home crowd? It will be a huge test for Unai Emery’s men.

Match Odds

There’s a big old swing in the odds when it comes to the match win and the prices for progression.

Napoli are 4/6 favourites to win the game in 90 minutes, with Arsenal 19/5 outsiders. Only Juventus and Roma have won at the Stadio San Paolo in the last 13 months, but a draw is good enough for the Gunners too, and that’s 3/1.

But in terms of reaching the semi-finals, it’s advantage Arsenal. The Premier League side are 2/9 to go through, with the Serie A side 3/1.

Talking tactics

Despite their propensity for defensive calamities (they lost away legs versus both BATE Borisov and Rennes), Arsenal have kept five clean sheets in their last six games.

A scruffy Phil Jagielka effort for Everton is the only time the Gunners have been beaten in 540 minutes of football.

Emery went with four at the back versus Watford on Monday and he may start in the same manner given Arsenal look far more secure defensively in that line-up.

Laurent Koscielny and Sokratis would form the central partnership. Shokdran Mustafi started at right-back on Monday, but could be dropped in place of Ainsley Maitland-Niles.

Is this the night for Mesut Ozil? That remains to be seen, with Aaron Ramsey arguably Arsenal’s best player right now. But having rested Alexandre Lacazette at Watford, it seems the Frenchman will lead the line tonight in place of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Lorenzo Insigne Napoli

Napoli have plenty of firepower to overturn this game. Lorenzo Insigne and Arkadiusz Milik will look to hassle the Arsenal defenders. Dries Mertens is an option too. They’ll be out to get on top of the game from the get-go. Can Arsenal hang on or even grab a potentially tie-winning away goal?

Goalscorer odds

Milik is favourite to score first at 7/2, followed by Mertens and Insigne at 9/2.

Aubameyang is 11/2 favourite for Arsenal, but the fresher Lacazette is right behind at 13/2.

But in a tie like this, an away goal at any point could and should do the job for the Gunners. Aubameyang is 2/1 to net anytime, Lacazette 9/4 with Ramsey 9/2.
