ITV Racing Tips: Magic Circle in perfect shape to beat Kew Gardens?

| 07.05.2019

It’s the second day of the Chester May Festival and that means four more exciting contests live on ITV4, including the Group 3 Diamond Ormonde Stakes at 3:35pm.

Last year’s St Leger winner Kew Gardens takes on 2018 Chester Cup winner Magic Circle in the clash of the day. But who are we tipping up across the afternoon? Read on for our ITV Racing Tips.

NAP – COPPER KNIGHT – 1:50 CHESTER

There’s not a great deal to fear in the opener, so it’s down to Copper Knight to continue his excellent record at Chester. The five-year-old is twice a winner at this fixture in both 2016 and 2017.

That’s not all. He also shaped well on reappearance when fourth of 16 in the Scottish Spring Cup, while a handy draw in stall one, where each of the last two winners of this race have come from, increases his chances.

The Sir Prancealot gelding is only 3lb higher than his last winning mark and can get up to score for connections – and us – over the 5f distance.

NB – MAGIC CIRCLE – 3:35 CHESTER

From Man City v Leicester City and Liverpool v Barcelona, it’s been a week of high-profile tussles. Now you can add St Leger winner Kew Gardens v Chester Cup champion Magic Circle to the list.

Both raiders boast impressive form and we’re expecting a close-run thing as the pair begin the campaign over shorter than their respective ideal distance. But we reckon Magic Circle might just have the edge.

Ian Williams’s charge has twice won on reappearance and usually goes well after a break. Add in the fact he won well here 12 months ago and he makes for an attractive proposition at the prices.

LIVELY LONGSHOT – LINCOLN PARK – 3:30 CHESTER

Tuesday’s longshot gave our punters a lovely run for their money after finishing 2nd at 10/1 in the Boodles Diamond Handicap. Now it’s down to Lincoln Park to follow up at a similar price on Wednesday.

The mount of Silvestre De Sousa couldn’t quite hold out at Musselburgh last time but that form has worked out pretty well, with winner Coolagh Forest a comfortable subsequent victor over 1m 1f.

Our tip should benefit from the drop in distance, while a low draw is also beneficial with seven of the last 10 winners coming from stall four or lower. He looks back to form and can hit the frame in an open race.

ITV RACING TIPS:

1:50 Chester – Copper Knight (NAP)

2:25 Chester – Circus Maximus

3:00 Chester – Lincoln Park (Lively Longshot, each-way)

3:35 Chester – Magic Circle (NB)
