Price and Van Gerwen favourites for Ladbrokes Players Championship

| 26.11.2020

Though there may be a few things different about this year’s Ladbrokes Players Championship, one thing remains the same; we’re in for some sensational darts this weekend.

Minehead has been swapped for Coventry, and fans have been replaced with backing music, but the trebles, doubles, 180s, bullseyes and bounce-outs will still be flying in.

And with the World Championships looming ever nearer, this weekend’s tournament is crucial for those looking to find crucial momentum and form ahead of the big one at Alexandra Palace next month.

Ladbrokes Players Championship favourites

It’s been a remarkable season on the PDC Tour, with Jose de Sousa becoming the latest in a line of new winners after his sensational performance to win the Grand Slam of Darts.

But it’s the usual suspects at the top of the betting, with Gerwyn Price and Michael van Gerwen sharing 4/1 favouritism in our outright market.

The pair are followed by reigning world champion Peter Wright at 11/2, with the in-form De Sousa next up at 12s.

Bully Boy Michael Smith is also at 12s, ahead of 16/1 shots Dimitri Van den Bergh (who we chatted to earlier this week) and James Wade, both of whom looked in great nick in last week’s Grand Slam, reaching the semis and final respectively.

Ladbrokes Players Championship ones to watch

Looking further down the order, 20/1 shot Nathan Aspinall is another whose recent performances on the oche suggest a big performance is imminent. And after a favourable-looking draw, The Asp will be fancying himself to at least reach the quarters.

Devon Petersen, who we grabbed a few words with right here, is in the hunt at 25s, while Simon Whitlock is lurking at 66/1s after hammering in the maximums during his run to the Grand Slam semis, defeating MVG along the way.

The Wizard sits alongside Jonny Clayton, who had plenty to say when we spoke to him this week, has enjoyed a handy 2020 himself, taking victory in the World Cup of Darts with Price.
