Ladbrokes World Championship: Lewis to shine against Wade

| 31.12.2011

Adrian Lewis’s quarter final win against Terry Jenkins may have been marred by the behavior by some members of the Alexandra Palace crowd, but the defending champion showed a steely determination that will serve him well against James Wade this evening.

Lewis blew a three-set lead against Jenkins in north London before regaining his composure and battling through to win 5-3.

It was a feat made all the more impressive by the hostile atmosphere he found himself in.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, he said: “I had to dig deep, but I started getting involved with the crowd because I thought they were very disrespectful.

“Every time I was throwing they were shouting ‘miss it’ and booing me. I wasn’t very happy – in fact I was fuming.”

However, the experience will stand him in good stead against Wade this evening and the defending champion should have enough to come through and justify his status as narrow 8/11 favoruite.

Lewis was bullish after his Jenkins victory and admitted he was confident of seeing off a player who has failed to live up to expectations in the biggest darts tournament of all.

Wade has never made it past the semi finals of the tournament and is currently 11/10 to make his first ever final.

It promises to be an extremely close game but Wade’s epic quarter final victory over John Part may have taken its toll on the 28-year-old.

Backing Lewis to continue his defence at 8/11 looks a bet well worth consideration.
