World Matchplay day 6 betting tips: Anderson takes on Whitlock

Gary Anderson

After two rounds of thrilling tungsten tussling in Milton Keynes, the World Matchplay moves onto the quarter-finals tonight.

Krzysztof Ratajski takes on Michael Smith in the evening’s opener, before Simon Whitlock plays Gary Anderson.

With Michael van Gerwen, Peter Wright and Rob Cross all out already, Anderson is 7/2 to go all the way, ahead of 9/2 shots Smith and Ratajski, but behind 11/4 favourite Glen Durrant, who takes on Vincent van der Voort tomorrow.

Krzysztof Ratajski (10/11) v (10/11) Michael Smith

Tonight’s opening clash could be a thriller, and our traders can’t split Krzysztof Ratajski and Michael Smith, with each priced up at 10/11 for victory.

Ratajski began with a blistering 107-average in his first round win over Jermaine Wattimena, before coming through 12-10 against the tricky Gabriel Clemens in round two.

Smith demolished Johnny Clayton 10-3 in round one, but Bully Boy was pushed all the way by Mensur Suljovic last time out, eventually prevailing 14-12.

Ratajski does edge the head-to-head with four wins to three, but both players have been hitting the treble bed with ease this week, and with solid checkout rates, this one really could go to the wire. There’s 10/11 about over 14.5 maximums, while you can get 17/20 about over 27.5 legs.

Simon Whitlock (7/4) v (2/5) Gary Anderson

Australia’s Simon Whitlock blew the World Matchplay wide open with his second round win over Michael van Gerwen, and now he faces another PDC World Champion in Gary Anderson.

The Flying Scotsman is 2/5 favourite, but he may need to up his game, having been solid rather than spectacular so far.

Anderson has yet to throw above a 93 average this week, and that could open the door for 7/4 shot Whitlock, should the Aussie reproduce his 98 average from round two.

The Scot usually has something in the locker, however, and holds a 24-17 record in previous contests with Whitlock, winning five of the last six meetings.

The duo landed 15 maximums between them in round two, and there’s 10/11 about the pair splitting over 17.5 180s tonight.
