Brighton v West Ham betting tips: Potter has to reshuffle

| 10.05.2021

West Ham travel to Brighton knowing that winning their remaining three games may not be enough to secure a Champions League spot.

Three defeats in their last four games mean the Europa League is their best hope of European football next season and the Hammers are 6/4 to beat a Brighton team that are finally safe from the threat of relegation.

Recent meetings between the teams have been very close so here’s the lowdown to help with your Brighton v West Ham betting tips.

Match Odds

Brighton could have been in the top five instead of fourth from bottom according to expected goals data but poor finishing meant they spent the season fighting against the drop.

The Seagulls paid the price for Lewis Dunk’s second-half dismissal as they relinquished a half-time lead in a 2-1 defeat at Wolves which saw Neal Maupay sent off after the final whistle for foul and abusive language directed towards referee Jon Moss.

That means Dunk and Maupay will be suspended for Brighton who have won just three home games this season, two of which have come in their last three games – 2-0 and 3-0 victories against Leeds and Newcastle respectively either side of a 0-0 draw with Everton.

The last four matches against the Hammers have been drawn with goals at both ends, so we go 11/5 on a share of the spoils and 16/5 on a point apiece and both teams to score.

Three of those games involved at least four goals and a draw with at least four goals is available at 12/1 while it’s 14/1 on 2-2 which was the outcome in December when Dunk and Maupay were both on target.

West Ham’s last three games on the road have produced at least three goals and that has been the case in five of the last seven meetings between these sides, with a sixth priced at 21/20.

Talking Tactics

Brighton manager Graham Potter has a quandary at both ends of the pitch with Dunk and Maupay suspended.

Danny Welbeck is likely to plough a lone furrow in attack, with the hosts possibly reverting from a 4-4-2 to a three-man defence in a 3-4-2-1 formation.

David Moyes could be without Manuel Lanzini (thigh) and Aaron Cresswell (dead leg), who both went off injured during the 1-0 defeat by Everton, so Jarrod Bowen and Ryan Fredericks are on standby.

Goalscorer Odds

Brighton have scored a goal a game this season and it’s hard to look beyond Welbeck at 9/2 to break the deadlock or 15/8 to find the net.

The former Manchester United and Arsenal striker has struck three times in his last seven games so he is finishing the campaign with a flourish.

Leandro Trossard scored in last season’s 1-1 draw and he has three goals in 2021, so we go 7/2 on the Dutch midfielder to add to his tally in our West Ham v Brighton betting tips.

Jesse Lingard, Michail Antonio and Tomas Soucek are all one goal away from making it double figures for West Ham and they can be backed at 15/8, 21/10 and 16/5 respectively.
