Leeds United ousted in race for Bogle as Wigan and Brentford emerge

Published:

Having been favourites earlier today to sign Grimsby Town hotshot Omar Bogle, Leeds United have been usurped by Wigan.

The Latics have reportedly bid £750k plus £250k in add-ons for the League Two ace, who has fired in 19 goals in the fourth-tier this season.

And our traders make it 2/5 that Bogle signs for Wigan before 23:00 tonight.

It’s not just Wigan who might disappoint the Elland Road faithful either, with Brentford also believed to be courting the 24-year-old.

With the Bees about to sell Scott Hogan to Aston Villa, they’re lacking quality up front.

Leeds boss Garry Monk had been hoping to ease the burden on Chris Wood, with the New Zealander netting over 43 per cent of the Yorkshire side’s goals this term.

Thankfully, our odds of 7/4 to land West Ham’s Ashley Fletcher suggest all is not lost for the Whites, who have already welcomed Villarreal’s Alfonso Pedraza this afternoon.

Wigan sit third-bottom in the Championship table, and could dearly use Bogle’s goalscoring talents, while Brentford will be keen to avoid sliding into a relegation battle.

Neither Wigan nor Leeds have a match to contend with tonight, while the Bees’ hopes of landing the striker may be hindered by having to play Villa this evening.

Swansea, Hull, Nottingham Forest and Barnsley have all been linked with Bogle today, but it now appears to be a showdown between Wigan, Leeds and Brentford.
