Chelsea v Burnley betting tips and odds

Chelsea moved to within a point of the knockout stage of the Champions League with a 1-0 win at Malmo on Tuesday having taken full advantage of slip-ups at home by Manchester City and Liverpool over the weekend.

The Blues moved three points clear at the top of the Premier League table with a 3-0 victory at winless Newcastle on Saturday when City lost 2-0 at home to Crystal Palace while the Reds were held by Brighton.

Thomas Tuchel’s side are 2/7 to win on Saturday as we take a look at some of the other options in our Chelsea v Burnley betting tips.

Match Odds

Burnley bagged their first win of the season with Saturday’s 3-1 victory over Brentford which temporarily lifted them out of the relegation zone but Leeds’ 2-1 success at Norwich on Sunday meant they returned to the bottom three.

Despite the club’s struggles, boss Sean Dyche believes recent performances have been “good” although his players will have to up their game even further if they are to cause an upset against the Premier League leaders.

The west Londoners have won the last three meetings with Burnley without conceding and are 10/11 to win to nil once again or they are similarly priced at 4/5 to win by at least two goals, which has been the case in the previous four encounters.

The Lancastrians have failed to score in four of their 10 matches and lost 2-0 at Liverpool and Manchester City so a repeat of that scoreline looks a possibility at 5/1 as one of our Chelsea v Burnley betting tips.

Chelsea have kept clean sheets in their last three games to make it seven for the season from 10 and are priced at 6/4 to win either half, over 1.5 goals in the match and not to concede.

The Blues took the lead between 21-30 minutes in three of the last four clashes with Burnley and are 5/1 to score their first goal between that spell or 11/8 to be ahead after half an hour.

Talking Tactics

Kai Havertz started up front in Sweden once again on Tuesday when they had 22 shots, 11 of which were on target in a game which was settled by a single goal from Hakim Ziyech.

The former Ajax winger played in an advanced role on the right in a 3-4-2-1 formation which saw Callum Hudson-Odoi on the left, although the two swapped flanks after the break.

A four-man midfield comprising Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Jorginho, Marcos Alonso and Cesar Azpilicueta played in front of a back three of Antonio Rudiger, Thiago Silva and Andreas Christensen.

Dyche had James Tarkowski and Ben Mee back in tandem at the heart of defence for the first time in four games at the weekend, with Maxwel Cornet once again impressing up front with Chris Wood in a 4-4-2 formation.

Goalscorer Odds

In the continued absence of Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner, Havertz dominates the first goalscorer market at 7/2 and is 5/4 to score at any time.

Ziyech scored his first goal of the season on Tuesday and is 9/2 to break the deadlock, as he did in last season’s 3-0 win at Turf Moor, or 13/8 to find the net in our Chelsea v Burnley betting tips.

Christian Pulisic scored a hat-trick in a 4-2 win at Burnley two seasons ago and now he is fully fit following a series of injury setbacks, the United States winger is 6/4 to breach the Clarets’ defence.

Reece James netted a double last weekend to make it three goals in as many games and is 9/1 and 10/3 in the two markets while Ben Chilwell can be backed at 9/1 and 10/3, the same odds as Burnley striker Chris Wood.

Cornet has bagged four goals in four and is 4/1 in the anytime goalscorer market.
