France v Germany betting tips: Les Bleus slight favourites in blockbuster opener

The biggest game of the group stage takes place on Tuesday when world champions France meet three-time winners Germany in Munich.
Didier Deschamps’ side have an excellent recent record against the Germans and they start the game as slight favourites at 33/20.
It promises to be a classic encounter between two of the favourites to win the tournament, so let’s look at some of the markets for your France v Germany betting tips.
Match Odds
France have won three and drawn two of the last five meetings with Joachim Low’s side since 2015, with two of those wins coming by a 2-0 scoreline.
They are 11/1 to repeat that outcome or 17/2 to win 2-1 as they did in their last game in a Nations League match in October 2018. Les Bleus to win and under 3.5 goals is 11/5 and a draw is available at the same price.
Germany have endured some shocking results in the last few months, losing 6-0 to Spain in the Nations League and in March they were beaten 2-1 at home by North Macedonia.
At least one team failed to score in three of the five matches in the last six years and a repeat is priced at 10/11, bearing in mind that’s been the case in five of France’s last eight outings.
Goals have tended to flow in matches involving Germany recently, including 3-3 draws with Turkey and Switzerland.
Seven of their previous nine matches have produced at least three goals and that outcome is available at 11/10.
Talking Tactics
Low deployed a 3-1-4-2 for the defeat by North Macedonia, with Joshua Kimmich in the holding midfield role and Serge Gnabry and Kai Havertz leading the line.
However, Low is likely to go with his usual 4-3-3 system in which Gnabry leads the attack alongside Timo Werner and either Leroy Sane or Havertz.
Deschamps alternates between a 4-4-2 and a 4-2-3-1 system, with the latter more likely against an attack-minded German team.
Goalscorer Odds
Antoine Griezmann has scored all four of France’s goals in their three most recent competitive matches and the Barcelona striker is 11/2 to break the deadlock or 14/5 to get on the scoresheet.
Kylian Mbappe, who netted in the World Cup final against Croatia, has 16 goals in 42 appearances since making his debut for France four years ago and is the 9/2 favourite to get the ball rolling or 23/10 tojust to score.
Werner scored against France in a 2-2 draw in an international friendly four years ago and he has 15 goals in 38 appearances so we go 11/2 and 14/5 in the same markets, the same odds as Serge Gnabry who was Germany’s top scorer in qualifying with eight goals.
