Italy v Wales betting tips: Bale and co chasing last 16 spot

Italy and Wales battle it out for top spot on Sunday when they go head-to-head in the final Group A fixture at the Stadio Olimpico.

The Azzurri have been one of the standout teams at Euro 2020, recording 3-0 victories over Turkey and Switzerland to sit comfortably at the summit and are 1/20 to top the group.

Italy are now second favourites to win the tournament alongside England at 11/2 and will want to finish their pool with another three points.

Rob Page’s side are virtually through, albeit not confirmed, after collecting four points from their two matches as we look at some of the markets in our Italy v Wales betting tips.

Match Odds

Italy have been superb with and without the ball in the tournament and are valued at 1/2 to maintain their 100 per cent record in Rome.

Roberto Mancini extended his terrific record of only two defeats in his 34-game tenure and Italy are one game away from equalling their 30-match unbeaten record following a routine win over Switzerland.

Another 3-0 scoreline is priced at 8/1, while a win to nil – something they have done in each of their last 10 matches – is 21/20.

Ciro Immobile Lorenzo Insigne Italy

Italy led at half-time and full-time against the Swiss and that option can be backed at 13/10, while winning both halves is 14/5.

The Azzurri need to avoid defeat to top Group A, which is valued at 1/11, but Wales can leapfrog them into first place with a victory at 7/1.

A draw – at 3/1 – would keep momentum for Rob Page’s men and guarantee second spot in the group, but they could slip to third if they fall to a heavy defeat and Switzerland beat Turkey.

Talking Tactics

Both teams will be matched up if they continue with the similar 4-3-3 systems which has brought success during Euro 2020.

Gareth Bale and Domenico Berardi are left-footed right wingers who can cause problems inside or outside of the full-backs, while on the other flank, diminutive flyers Dan James and Lorenzo Insigne provide pace and flair.

Manuel Locatelli scored a brace from central midfield against La Suisse, while Juventus midfielder Aaron Ramsey opened the scoring for Wales against Turkey.

Kieffer Moore offers a physical presence up front for Page’s side while Ciro Immobile is a devastating finisher, with Nicolo Barella and Jorginho dictating the tempo in the Italy midfield.

Goalscorer Odds

Immobile came into Euro 2020 without managing to score at a major tournament – failing to net at the 2014 World Cup and fiver years ago at Euro 2016.

But the Lazio striker has maintained his terrific goalscoring form from this season by scoring in each of the Azzurri’s two group games and is now third favourite to take the Golden Boot at 7/1.

The 31-year-old attacker is 14/5 to score first against Wales, 7/5 to net any time and 14/5 to wrap up proceedings like he did in matchday two.

Locatelli is a huge 80/1 to grab a brace once again and 5/1 to breach the defence at any time. Insigne, Italy’s other goalscorer in the competition, can be backed at 9/2 and 12/5 in the first and anytime goalscorer markets respectively.

Ramsey scored the opening goal in the win over Turkey and is 18/1 to do that again, while he is valued at 9/1 to find the net at any time.

Wales captain Bale, who missed a penalty against Turkey, is 15/2 and 7/2 in the first and any-time goalscorer markets, while striker Moore, who scored in matchday one, is 5/1 breach the Italian defence and 10/1 to bag the last goal.
