Luton Town overwhelming favourites for League Two promotion
It’s fair to say Luton Town have already proved their pre-season promotion credentials in League Two.
The Hatters thumped Yeovil Town 8-2 on the opening weekend of the season.
And despite the fact they currently sit 5th after four games, they look destined for promotion.
It’s a situation reflected in their odds.
Manager Nathan Jones has created a team that going forward is the envy of the division.
They boast Josh McQuoid, Elliot Lee and James Collins in attack – the latter of whom has won promotion from this division three times in the past six seasons.
While in midfield the recent signing of Luke Berry from Cambridge United is stellar business.
The 25-year-old averaged just under a goal every four games from midfield for the U’s and fills the void left by Cameron McGeehan.
But what about the rest?
Fellow early season fancies Mansfield Town have had a slow start but remain 5/1 second favourites to go up as champions.
Divisive boss Steve Evans has not been shy in the transfer market this summer.
With Lee Angol up front for the Stags they certainly have the goals to gain promotion this season.
However, it may take time to knit all of the strands together for the East Midlands club with so many new players.
When it starts to click at the One Call Stadium though, you’ll know about it.
The Other Contenders
Current pacesetters Exeter City have unsurprisingly jumped to 7/4 to go up following an unbeaten start to the campaign.
Crucially manager Paul Tisdale has managed to sort out the Devonshire sides’ home form.
And that should allow for a sustained promotion charge.
The pair are looking for an immediate return to League One and currently sit just outside the play-off places.
Slightly further down the pecking order we like Wycombe Wanderers at 9/2.
Probably the most exciting team in the division at the moment, the Chairboys have goals in abundance.
If they want to make a sustained challenge though, reparations will be required to plug a leaky defence.
