Leeds v Brentford betting tips and odds

Relegation-threatened Leeds host Brentford on Sunday afternoon buoyed by a stoppage-time victory over Crystal Palace during the week after which manager Marcelo Bielsa said “we can breathe again”.

Patrick Bamford and Luke Ayling are also likely to be available after long-term injuries and victory this weekend will see United leapfrog the Bees who were not at the races in Thursday’s 2-0 defeat at Tottenham.

The hosts are 20/23 favourites to make it back-to-back victories but let’s check some of the other markets to help with our Leeds v Brentford betting tips.

Match Odds

Brentford’s superb start to the season was in danger of unravelling until last weekend’s 1-0 victory over Everton which ended a winless run of four defeats in five, although they are still not out of the woods after their loss in north London.

Five defeats in seven is relegation form but Thomas Frank was “satisfied with the performance” at Spurs and said “we will learn from this match, recover quickly and be ready for Leeds on Sunday”.

In the absence of star striker Bamford, Leeds’ last 12 games have involved three or fewer match goals so should they win they are likely to do so in that manner, an option which can be backed at 33/20.

United have also scored exactly once in seven of their last 10 outings and yet are 9/5 to make it eight, with another 1-0 victory priced at 13/2 in our Leeds v Brentford betting tips.

One noticeable feature of recent Brentford games is their tendency to allow early goals, conceding inside 15 minutes in five of their last six matches.

Leeds are not renowned for bursting out of the blocks, with only Norwich and Wolves having scored fewer than their 13 this season, but they can be backed at 5/1 to be leading after a quarter of an hour.

Talking Tactics

Bielsa experimented with Tyler Roberts operating as the main striker in the win against Palace which also saw Kalvin Phillips revert to his best position as the holding midfield playmaker instead of centre-back where he played at Brighton.

Diego Llorente and Liam Cooper played in the heart of defence but Junior Firpo, given the run-around by Seagulls wing-back Tariq Lamptey last weekend, was dropped to the bench and replaced by Pascal Struijk, who has a hip problem but is likely to be available.

The Bees only had one shot on target at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium but Frank will keep faith in a 3-5-2 formation in which Ivan Toney and Bryan Mbeumo lead the attack.

Goalscorer Odds

Raphinha has scored almost half of Leeds’ goals this season and so it is hardly a shock to see the Brazil winger 7/2 to break the deadlock or 6/4 to get on the scoresheet.

Roberts put in a tireless display against the Eagles in his first start since mid-October and he looks an option at 6/1 to get the ball rolling or 12/5 to find the net.

Dan James bagged his first goal since joining the club from Manchester United in the 2-1 defeat at Tottenham and is 11/2 and 21/10 in the two options while Bamford is 4/1 and 8/5 although he is likely to start on the bench.

For the Bees, Toney and Mbeumo are 5/1 and 9/1 respectively to draw first blood or 21/10 and 7/2 in the anytime scorer market as the last of Sunday’s Leeds v Brentford betting tips.
