Leeds v Derby: Visitors can reach cloud nine with another victory

Published:

Leeds United have grown to dread meetings with Derby County, who can be backed at 9/4 to record a ninth successive victory over the Whites at Elland Road on Monday.

The Rams haven’t failed to beat Leeds since a goalless draw in February 2006, and will head to Yorkshire buoyed by back-to-back victories over Leicester and Bristol City which have cemented their place in the middle reaches of the Championship table.

That is where you can find Leeds too, as Neil Warnock has seen his side’s promotion push slip away off the back of a winless five-game run.

The notoriously combustible boss called defender Tom Lees “stupid” for picking up a red card in Saturday’s 3-0 loss at Ipswich, and without the England under-21 centre-back his team could struggle to prevent their visitors from finding the net. Derby – who have won five of those eight matches against Leeds by a one-goal margin – are 10/1 for a 1-0 win.

Having taken the lead in each of their last four matches, it might also pay to back Nigel Clough’s Rams to get on the scoresheet early.

Derby are 11/2 to be leading the game at both half and full-time, whilst if you feel that the Rams will make the breakthrough later on then Draw/Derby can be backed at 15/2.

Clough’s men like to share the strikes around, and with different players scoring all of their last five goals then the goalscorer markets could prove tough to get to the bottom of.

Having said that, Northern Ireland international Jamie Ward scored in two of the four most recent wins over Leeds, whilst the forward also found the net in the 3-0 win over Bristol City on Good Friday.

The 26-year-old is 9/4 to find the net at any time at Elland Road, whilst he is 7/1 to open the scoring.
