Premier League: Out of Contract XI

It’s been an uncertain time for football in recent weeks, none more so than for the sixty-eight Premier League stars whose contracts expire on 30th June.

The Premier League have told clubs they have until 23rd June to agree any contract extensions until the conclusion of the ongoing season.

Project Restart is in full swing with the remaining nine rounds of matches expected to kick-off on 17th June.

Every Premier League side has at least one player who will be out of contract at the end of the month – apart from Norwich City.

So, who makes our Out of Contract XI?

Joe Hart

The 33-year-old is keen to play more first-team football and looks set to depart Turf Moor when the current season concludes.

Elsewhere, Artur Boruc, Ben Foster and Claudio Bravo could all be available on free transfers too.

Nathaniel Clyne

Long-term injuries have left him well down the Anfield pecking order. He is certain to depart Liverpool with Neco Williams expected to fill the void as back-up to Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Jan Vertonghen

It looks increasingly likely that this will be the Belgian defender’s last season at the club. Japhet Tanganga’s own expiring deal features an optional extension which the club are more likely to trigger.

David Luiz

Looks set to be offered a new one-year deal at Arsenal but will need to accept reduced terms to his current 120,000-a-week wages. Talks are on-going with both parties keen to reach a compromise.

Leighton Baines

Aged 35, his top-flight days are numbered, and a 13-year stay on Merseyside looks increasingly likely to come to an end. A short-term deal could be agreed, but next season Baines is set to be plying his trade elsewhere.

Willian

Certain to stay at Stamford Bridge for the remaining nine matches. However, his future is up in the air beyond that with a new long-term deal no closer to being agreed.

David Silva

It will be an emotional goodbye after a trophy-laden decade at Manchester City for the Spaniard. City look sure to keep Silva on their books beyond June 30th on a short-term basis with possible FA Cup and Champions League campaigns still to be concluded.

Jeff Hendrick

Talks are on-going to keep Hendrick at Turf Moor after triggering an extension in his contract last summer. He has been a regular for Burnley and Sean Dyche will not want to lose him on a free.

Adam Lallana

Another Liverpool player heading for the exit door in search of more regular action. A short-term deal remains most likely option. A Premier League winners’ medal would be the perfect parting gift.

Andy Carroll

Initially, Carroll had a one-year extension option at Newcastle by playing a certain amount of games but that has become impossible to trigger due to injury and the suspension of the season.

Shane Long

Long’s future remains uncertain at Southampton. Ralf Hasenhuttl is still to decide on where the 33-year-old’s future lies with both Danny Ings and Michael Obafemi preferred striking options at St-Mary’s.
