Liverpool v Southampton betting tips: Thiago 11/2 to repeat Porto feat
Liverpool v Southampton betting tips and odds
The Reds maintained their 100% record in the group stage of the Champions League on Wednesday with victory against Porto and have another tough task on their hands against Southampton this weekend.
Goals from Thiago Alcantara and Mo Salah secured a 2-0 win for Liverpool, who are 2/7 to beat Saints whose four-game unbeaten run ended at Norwich last weekend.
Jurgen Klopp’s side are one of only two teams yet to lose at home this season, so let’s look at some of the options in our Liverpool v Southampton betting tips.
Klopp surprisingly made just four changes for the win against the Portuguese, with Salah and Mane playing in attack to support main striker Takumi Minamino.
However, teenager Tyler Morton was given the task of playing in the heart of midfield, flanked by Thiago and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and was not overwhelmed by the occasion.
Liverpool have won seven of the last eight meetings with Saints and they have won the last four against them at Anfield without conceding, so we go 11/8 on another win to nil.

The Reds have scored at least twice in eight of their nine home games in all competitions and last weekend hammered in-form Arsenal 4-0, so a repeat of that scoreline can be backed at 12/1, while a 2-0 victory – which was the outcome in last season’s fixture – is 13/2.
Saints, though, had taken 10 points from a possible 12 before their defeat at Carrow Road and they were looking good for a point at Chelsea until goalscorer James Ward-Prowse was sent off 13 minutes from time at which point the leaders went on to secure a 3-1 win.
Liverpool are 6/4 to win and concede, but they drew 2-2 at home to Brighton at the end of October and a share of the spoils with goals does not look beyond Southampton at 11/2.
The hosts can also be backed at 10/11 to be ahead at half-time and full-time in our Liverpool v Southampton betting tips, bearing in mind they have not lost the opening 45 minutes this season (W8 D4).
All the talk was of Thiago’s performance and sweetly-hit 25-yard strike during the win against Porto and Klopp could start the Spain midfielder for a third successive game.
Injuries and Covid mean Thiago has missed 31 of the club’s 70 matches since arriving from Bayern Munich, but his quality was there for all to see at Anfield.

Andy Robertson, Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Diogo Jota and Fabinho are all expected to return to the starting line-up having been on the bench on Wednesday.
Saints’ Stuart Armstrong is doubtful with a calf injury which forced him to miss the defeat at Norwich, but Nathan Redmond could return having recently become a father, although it remains to be seen whether Moussa Djenepo has overcome a personal issue which resulted in his absence at the weekend.
Sadio Mane opened the scoring against his former club in last season’s fixture and was unlucky not to break the deadlock against Porto when his smart finish was ruled out by the slightest of offsides.
The Senegal star is 7/2 to get the ball rolling and 21/20 to score, but Salah is understandably the 12/5 and 8/13 favourite in the two markets having struck in his last two games to make it 17 for the season in all competitions.
Jota is 7/2 and evens, while Thiago can be backed at 11/2 to get on the scoresheet again as he did in last season’s 2-0 victory over Saints.
In the last of our Liverpool v Southampton betting tips, Saints strikers Che Adams and Adam Armstrong are 10/1 and 11/1 respectively to score the opening goal of the game or 10/3 and 7/2 in the anytime market.
