Aston Villa v Manchester United Betting Tips: History on side of Red Devils
Manchester United may well have had to watch the blue side of the city celebrate Premier League title success by the time they visit Villa Park on Sunday.
Even if Manchester City clinch top spot against Chelsea on Saturday, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side still have a job to do in securing second place.
They face an Aston Villa side with nothing to play for in theory, but Dean Smith’s men banished that idea with a 2-1 win at Everton last weekend.
The Red Devils are 3/4 to win as we take a look at some of the markets in our Aston Villa v Manchester United Betting Tips.
Aston Villa will need to overcome the weight of history if they are to triumph on Sunday.
United have a mighty record at Villa Park having not lost there in the Premier League since 1995. Add to that their impressive away form this season and it appears a tough task for Smith’s men.
United are 24 away games undefeated and closing in on Arsenal’s Premier League record of 27 – although they cannot break that record this season.
However, they have been involved in goalless draws in three of their last five away games and we go 11/4 for another share of the spoils, with 0-0 available at 12/1, bearing in mind Villa have the third highest number of clean sheets this season.
They have also been forced to come from behind a lot this season, winning a league-high 28 points from losing positions. They are priced at 17/2 to win from behind at Villa Park.
The Villa trip kicks off a gruelling run of three league matches in five days for Solskjaer’s team and comes just three days after they sealed a place in the Europa League final despite a second-leg 3-2 loss in Rome.
Rotation is therefore likely to be the order of the day for the United manager, with the likes of Bruno Fernandes, Paul Pogba, Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood and Edinson Cavani all likely to come in and out of the side.
Villa’s Jack Grealish is not yet ready for action having revealed to the Duke of Cambridge this week that he is “a week to 10 days away”.
Cavani’s future at Old Trafford beyond this season may remain in doubt, but the Uruguayan is certainly finishing the campaign strongly.
He has scored seven goals in seven games and the 34-year-old has established himself as Solskjaer’s number nine. Cavani is available at 7/2 to score first at Villa Park.
After a barren run, Villa have found the net in each of their last four matches. England Euro 2020 hopeful Ollie Watkins is the obvious main threat and is 6/1 to find the net first, with penalty-taker Anwar El Ghazi 5/2 to score anytime and make it three goals in as many games.
Beyond that, Bertrand Traore is a regular starter and scored in the reverse fixture at Old Trafford. He is available at 9/2 to strike again and 12/1 to open the scoring.
