Cahill looking increasingly likely to sign for Spurs

Gary Cahill is looking increasingly likely to sign for Tottenham before the end of the transfer window, assuming that a transfer fee can be agreed with Bolton.

North London rivals Arsenal have been chasing Cahill for much of the summer, but have been put off by Bolton’s refusal to allow the England international to leave for less than £16m.

Tottenham are also unlikely to meet this valuation, but that has not prevented being backed into 1/2 to have signed for Spurs by the closing of the transfer window.

This move was initially priced at 9/2 first thing this morning.

Arsenal had refused to offer any more than £11m for Cahill, which means that common sense says that Tottenham will have to pay more than this to land their man.

Every window there is a transfer that is completed in the final seconds and it would be no surprise if this was Cahill this time.

There appears to be a lot of transfer activity, both in inward and outward capacities, at White Hart Lane today and many deals will often be relying on others to be sorted out before they are completed.

Tottenham are thought to have little more than £10m to spend and will be therefore relying on selling the likes of Peter Crouch to provide extra funds for Cahill.

Sebastien Bassong would also free up some defensive squad space if he completes a move to Newcastle, as would Alan Hutton if he joins Aston Villa.

Meanwhile, Harry Redknapp may also be tempted to throw some of his fringe players into a Cahill deal to bring down the price.
