Carrick the fall guy if Man Utd get Juventus star signed up

| 31.07.2014

It’s the transfer which every Manchester United fan is willing to go through more than that payrise they’ve been waiting for at work, but if the Red Devils can successfully sew up a deal for Arturo Vidal where does he play and who makes way?

The simple answer of course, is that anyone costing in excess of £40m British sterling will be guaranteed a first team spot at the 5/1 title shots.

Louis van Gaal is not the sort of manager afraid to ruffle feathers either, so Vidal slotting into the United engine room will ultimately mean someone else getting hooked as the Dutchman attempts to bring glory back.

Here’s how we see Van Gaal deploying his troops if Vidal joins the Old Trafford outfit:

In what is expected to be a 3-4-1-2 David de Gea is the undisputed number one and has grown in stature in recent season.

Ahead of the Spaniard, Van Gaal’s preference for three centre-backs sees an all-British line-up until such time another defender is drafted in with Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Jonny Evans getting the nod.

The Dutchman looks like he will play a four-man midfield where £27m Luke Shaw is certain to be given license to fly down the left and Antonio Valencia seems best suited to perform duties on the opposing flank.

Ander Herrera has already excelled in pre-season and takes up one of the two central midfield slots alongside Vidal, in what would be a formidable duo, streaks ahead of anything United have fielded for several seasons.

Unfortunately for midfield stalwart Michael Carrick, that means he misses out, as was the case with England’s World Cup squad.

In front of Old Trafford’s new power couple, £37m Juan Mata will be expected to provide Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney with plenty of killer passes.
