Here’s what West Brom need to do in the January window

January is a pivotal moment of the season for most teams. The January transfer window opens and that gives sides the opportunity to improve.

For some outfits, it can mean the difference between a great escape or European football.

The Ladbrokes News team are profiling all 20 Premier League clubs.

Here it’s West Bromwich Albion’s turn to go under the microscope…

What they need

In short, the Baggies need goals – and lots of them. WBA have scored just 13 goals in their first 18 games. It’s been an issue for a number of seasons now.

New manager Alan Pardew needs to add attacking players and then let the side have a go.

Attacking midfielders and strikers are imperative.

Who they’re targeting?

It seems Pardew is already targeting Krasnodar’s Charles Kabore – a defensive midfielder. But surely that would be a waste of funds.

Moves for the likes of Liverpool’s Danny Ings or Marko Gruijic should be more of a priority. Or even an ambitious attempt to take Manchester City’s 17-year-old prodigy Phil Foden.

Who they might lose?

Jonny Evans is a player in demand. The Northern Ireland captain was linked with a summer move to Man City and that may yet materialise.

If Evans does leave he’ll go for upwards of £25m and that would certainly free up funds for spending.

Final Thought

West Brom look like they could be in serious trouble this season. Alan Pardew will need to get his side firing on all cylinders.

From the outside looking in, the squad looks quite good. But the talent that he does possess needs to be let off the leash.
