Is star England hitman set for Deadline Day move to Arsenal?

| 31.08.2016

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has come under increasing pressure to sign a striker this summer, and it seems that Gunners fans could be set to see their dreams come true with the signing of prolific Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge.

The Reds hitman netted 13 times in 25 games last season, but injuries and Jurgen Klopp’s squad selection saw him struggle for game-time, and word is that the Anfield gaffer remains unconvinced by the former Chelsea forward.

With the Gunners likely to miss Danny Welbeck through a cartilage injury for another six months, and Olivier Giroud struggling for goals, it’s just 5/1 that Wenger secures a decisive Deadline Day deal for Sturridge – who could well form an all-new Emirates strike partnership with Lucas Perez.

The 26-year-old is valued at £21.25m by Transfermarkt.co.uk, but with Arsenal believed to have paid upwards of £30m for Granit Xhaka and Shkrodan Mustafi already this window, they’re unlikely to balk at the figure required to snap up this proven goalscorer.

However, they could face competition for Sturridge’s signature from several Premier League rivals.

It’s 10/1 the Birmingham native returns to former club Chelsea, while West Ham are priced at 12s and another former employer – Manchester City – are 20/1 outsiders to bring their former teenage prodigy back to the Etihad.

One thing’s for sure – if Arsenal can bring in one of English football’s most lethal and exciting strikers, those odds of 11/1 for the north London outfit to win a first Premier League title since 2004 could quickly tumble.
