Matt Holt, Paul King and NYE fireworks for Liverpool v Man City

Published:

2016 might be drawing to a close but there’s still time for a Premier League humdinger between Liverpool and Manchester City to round off the year in fine fashion.

Such a huge game deserves plenty of fanfare and we’ve got top Twitter tipsters Matt Holt and Paul King working overtime to provide the fireworks.

Yep, New Year’s Eve is going to go off with a bang and our dynamic duo are ready to light the fuse.

In the build-up to the crunch clash at Anfield the good folk @Ladbrokes have been busy pricing up your #WhatAreTheOdds requests.

We’ll have more on those later. But for now here’s how Matt and Paul have been getting involved…

MATT HOLT

Both Teams to Score in Both Halves and 4 or more corners for each team – 22/1

Between Liverpool and Man City we’re looking at two of the strongest attacking forces in the Premier League. We’re also looking at two sides who are prone to defensive errors when put under pressure.

To me, that means one thing – goals.

At 22/1 I’m more than willing to have a pop on both teams to score in both halves, with both teams also picking up at least four corners.

Over 1.5 Second Half Goals, 5 or More Second Half Corners, 3 or More Second Half Cards – 4/1

With this one we’re covered for two potential, and pretty realistic, scenarios…

We’ve seen a fair few Premier League games this season that have started slowly and then exploded into life in the second half, and I like the idea of that happening again at 4/1.

The other scenario is one where either side storms into an early lead and the other has some ground to make up in the second half. That would inevitably lead to a lot of shots on goal, corners and probably a few cynical cards to stop counter attacks.

This one will be my ‘best bet’ for the day.

PAUL KING

Both Teams to Score, Both Teams 2 or More Cards, Both Teams 4 or More Corners – 8/1

Looking at Matt’s 4/1 best bet up there, I’m really struggling to see why this one is double the price considering we’re backing these things to happen over 90 minutes rather than 45.

I’m taking a bit of a gamble on the cards because I think it could be a really fiery match, but the rest of this bet actually looks very, very good on paper.

Manchester City have failed to score in just one Premier League game this season, while Liverpool have scored in 15 of their 18 games so far. With that in mind I’d say one goal each looks pretty nailed on.

As for the corners, Pep Guardiola’s men take an average of 7.4 corners per game whilst Liverpool win 6.5 per game. Considering we only need them to get four each, the numbers look good.

Adam Lallana to Outscore Manchester City – 15/2

Many Liverpool fans thought their outstanding opening to the season would start to stutter after Philippe Coutinho was forced to leave the field with an injury last month, but their fears were quickly put to one side when another of their talented midfield men stepped up to the plate to help them keep the pace.

Adam Lallana had already been in fantastic form for Jurgen Klopp’s side, but with Coutinho out of the fold and a void of creativity left to be filled, he has really moved things up a gear.

He’s arguably the most in form player in the Premier League right now, and with 4 goals in his last 5 games I think he could potentially outscore Man City’s entire squad tonight if the score stays low.
