West Brom vs Everton – Toffees to enjoy rare New Year treat

| 31.12.2011

New Year’s Day has not historically produced positive results for Everton in the Premier League, but they can make some amends with victory at West Brom.

Everton have been beaten on seven of the ten occasions they have played in the Premier League on January 1st, but could be overpriced at 9/5 to win at the Hawthorns.

David Moyes’ team have already beaten West Brom once this season in the Carling Cup.

West Brom arguably head into the clash as the form team, taking seven points out of nine since a disappointing home loss to Wigan.

Meanwhile, they will also take confidence from not only drawing with Manchester City in their latest game, but also being the first team to shut out the league leaders so far this season.

The Baggies are virtually guaranteed to play in a more positive fashion against Everton and they are 7/5 to collect a victory that would confirm their spot in the top half of the standings.

But Everton have scored a greater percentage of goals in the second half than any other Premier League club this season and this fact could enable them to steal a late victory.

They have twice triumphed at West Brom 2-1 in the Premier League previously and it is 10/1 that they repeat this success again.

Punters wanting to take less of a risk can instead get 4/1 that Everton simply win by a single goal, while it is 1/1 that Everton score the final goal of the game at the Hawthorns, whatever the final score.

Both teams are without a truly prolific goalscorer and so some decent value can be scored in the first goalscorer market.

It may be best to side with West Brom striking first and Chris Brunt’s lethal left foot could make him a decent bet at 11/1.

Leon Osman has been one of Everton’s standout performers in recent weeks and he is also worthy of consideration at the same price.
