West Ham get busy in the transfer market with Carroll poised to join

| 31.07.2012

West Ham United are looking to spend some pretty big money as they hope to guarantee their Premier League survival this coming season.

The Championship play-off winners are thought to be on the verge of securing a £2million loan deal for Liverpool striker Andy Carroll.

The BBC seem convinced the deal has already gone through, although several other news outlets are less sure.

It looks certain to be finalised at some point very soon though and getting the 23-year-old for the forthcoming season would provide a huge boost to West Ham’s survival prospects.

While Brendan Rodgers isn’t sure Carroll would fit in with what he’s trying to do at Anfield, Sam Allardyce’s more direct style of football, should see him get a hatful of goals for the Irons.

West Ham are currently 9/4 to get relegated on their return to the Premier League but those odds are sure to lengthen if they get Carroll and the other players they are currently being linked with.

According to the Metro, Allardyce is after a trio of defenders as he looks to tighten up the Irons at the back.

He’s close to completing the signing of Ivan Ramis for £5million, while Aston Villa centre back James Collins – who previously played for the east London side – is also set to sign within the coming days.

Finally, it also looks like Polish free agent Sebastian Boenisch will be heading to the Boleyn Ground in the coming days.

The former Werder Bremen player is currently without a contract and is thought to be keen to test himself in the Premier League.
