Sheff Utd v Birmingham betting tips: Brum start for Jokanovic

Sheff Utd v Birmingham betting tips and preview

Sheffield United start their Championship season as 4/5 favourites to beat Birmingham in the late game on Saturday night in Slavisa Jokanovic’s first competitive game in charge.

The Blades have kept most of the squad that finished bottom of the Premier League last season, John Lundstram aside, and are 13/2 third favourites to win the Championship, behind fellow relegated clubs Fulham and Watford.

City showed signs of improvement under Lee Bowyer last season so let’s look at the markets and odds in our Sheff Utd v Birmingham betting tips.

Match Odds

Sheffield United’s second season in the Premier League resulted in the dismissal of Chris Wilder in March and although his temporary replacement Paul Heckingbottom helped secure three wins in the last six matches he was left with too much to do so late in the season.

Birmingham, 12/1 to be promoted this season, also underwent a change of manager in March as Aitor Karanka was replaced by Lee Bowyer who engineered five wins in his 10 games in charge to steer the Blues to safety.

They were heavily beaten by Cardiff and Blackburn in their last two games but can be backed at 23/10 to draw, 4/1 to win or evens in the double chance market in our Sheff Utd v Birmingham betting tips.

Bowyer has brought in several young Premier League players on loan, the most notable being winger Tahith Chong from Manchester United, so it could be an interesting season at St Andrew’s, although 3-2 and 4-0 friendly defeats to Northampton and West Brom have not been ideal preparation.

The majority of United’s games were settled by a single goal last season so we go 9/4 on a one-goal margin of victory or 6/5 on a win and under 3.5 goals.

The Yorkshire side were comfortably the lowest scorers in the Premier League last season with 20, but Rhian Brewster and Oliver McBurnie may form a decent partnership eventually.

Talking Tactics

Jokanovic enjoyed promotion to the Premier League with both Watford and Fulham, so the hope is that the Serb can produce the magic once more at Bramall Lane.

Strikers Billy Sharp and McBurnie are both in contention but left-back Enda Stevens remains out with an unspecified injury.

Bowyer has been deploying a 4-4-2 in pre-season games with Jonathan Leko accompanying Lukas Jutkiewicz up front.

Goalscorer Odds

Blades attacker Lys Mousset scored a couple of goals in the 4-0 pre-season win against Doncaster and is 4/1 to break the deadlock or 9/5 to get on the scoresheet, but David McGoldrick is the 7/2 and 6/4 favourite in both markets.

Brewster is 9/2 and 15/8, while Oli Burke, who scored the opener against Rovers, is 5/1 to draw first blood or 11/5 to find the net.

Jutkiewicz and Leko are 7/1 and 9/1 to bag the opener or 3/1 and 7/2 to score, while Chuks Aneke, signed from Bowyer’s former club Charlton, is 3/1 co-favourite to net for Brum.
