Man City v Tottenham betting tips and odds

Manchester City are back in Premier League action this weekend after a sensational 5-0 win at Sporting in the Champions League on Tuesday.

The Premier League champions are 2/7 favourites to beat Tottenham who have lost their last three games.

Beating the leaders on Saturday night looks a tall order for Spurs, but let’s look at some of the markets and odds in our Man City v Tottenham betting tips.

Manchester City v Tottenham form

Spurs boss Antonio Conte claimed his squad had been left technically “weakened” by the January transfer window when they brought in Juventus pair Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur, but lost Tanguy Ndombele, Giovani Lo Celso, Dele Alli and Bryan Gil.

Tottenham also missed out on deals for Adama Traore and Luis Diaz, so the prospects of upsetting the leaders look bleak as they look to break their losing run.

Spurs recently lost three encounters with Chelsea without scoring and they were second best in a 2-0 home defeat by Wolves last Sunday.

City, on the other hand, have taken 43 points from the last 45, most recently winning 4-0 at relegation-threatened Norwich so their form is nothing short of spectacular.

Despite knocking in four first-half goals in Portugal, manager Pep Guardiola claimed his players have plenty of room for improvement.

He said: “We have to take care of the ball better. One of the rules I have is when you have the ball try to pass to someone in the same T-shirt. Today we lost the ball many times.

“The difference was that we were so clinical. Then it is difficult for the opponents and we have confidence. It is a dream, a perfect result, so good for the second leg but we can do better.”

Those words won’t provide Conte with too much consolation, though, as City have won their last three matches withut conceding and kept a Premier League-high 15 clean sheets this season, nine of which have been at home.

With Spurs seemingly on the ropes, a win for City to nil looks likely at 11/10 as one of our Man City v Tottenham betting tips.

City are also fast starters having struck 12 times inside the opening 15 minutes this season, although they have not done so in their last six matches.

However, they have scored in the first quarter of an hour in three of their last five home games in all competitions and can be backed at 16/5 to be leading after 15 minutes once more or scoring their opener between 1-10 or 11-20 are both available at 9/2.

Alternatively, City to be ahead after half an hour is 27/20, but they are 5/1 to break the deadlock between 21-30 minutes.

City are also 10/11 to be ahead at half-time and full-time, but the odds are slightly higher at 17/10 to win both halves as they have done in their last four games in all competitions.

Manchester City v Tottenham head to head

Tottenham have beaten City in four successive games on home turf, but unfortunately for them they are at the Etihad where their record is not quite as good.

City have won four and drawn two of their last six home meetings with Spurs in all competitions and the last five matches overall have produced three or fewer match goals.

With that in mind, City can be backed at 23/20 to win and under 3.5 goals which has been the case in five of their last seven home games in the Premier League.

Key Battles

Dealing with City’s attacking threat is easier said than done for a Spurs team that have conceded at least twice in their last four top-flight matches.

Guardiola started with Phil Foden, Riyad Mahrez and Raheem Sterling in attack on Tuesday, but the danger came from all areas of the pitch, especially Bernardo Silva who was denied a hat-trick for a marginal offside.

Spurs midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojberg was dropped last weekend for the first time since joining the club nearly 18 months ago, but the manner of their defeat by Wolves suggests he could earn an instant recall in a bid to keep the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Rodri and Silva quiet, if that’s possible.

Manchester City v Tottenham team news

Guardiola was critical of Joao Cancelo for giving the ball away too many times in Portugal, so Oleksandr Zinchenko may retain his place at left-back.

But, Cancelo has been one of City’s stand-out players this season and with Liverpool still snapping at their heels, we suspect the Portugal defender will get the nod.

Kyle Walker was suspended for Tuesday’s win, so he could come back in for John Stones who filled in at right-back.

Conte seems to be becoming increasingly disgruntled at Tottenham but proved how tough he is by hooking Ryan Sessegnon after half an hour on Sunday when he was replaced by new signing Kulusevski.

Hojberg could accompany Oliver Skipp and Bentancur in the heart of midfield in a 3-5-2 system, with Harry Kane and Son Heung-min leading the line.

Goalscorer Odds

Mahrez and Sterling lead the betting at 4/1 to break the deadlock on Saturday and both players can be backed at 7/5 to find the net at any time.

Silva scored twice during the week and is 6/1 to get the ball rolling or 21/10 in the anytime market as one of our Man City v Tottenham betting tips.

Of the outsiders, Rodri scored the opener from the penalty spot in last season’s 3-0 victory in this fixture and is 14/1 to repeat the trick or 5/1 to score, while Aymeric Laporte won the Carabao Cup final 10 months ago and is 18/1 and 6/1 in the two options.

Harry Kane is an incredible 9/1 to open the scoring, the same price as Son, and both forwards are available at 3/1 to find the net.
