International Racing Betting Tips: Our trader on Happy Valley

Published:

Horseracing comes thick and fast from all over the globe on Wednesday, includingaction from Happy Valley and Will Rogers Downs.

Much of the Australasian action takes place during theearly hours, but there are twilight meetings at Sonoda and Mombetsu, respectively.

The pick of the evening US racing comes from WillRogers Downs, and Bling Springsteen could be interesting in theopener at 19:15. Martin Lozano’s four-year-old was second here two starts backand will be looking to go one better this time round.

Undoubtedly, the stand-out meeting of the day is thenine-race jamboree at Happy Valley which runs from 11:45 until 15:50 UKtime. Our trader Tim Smith has previewed the card with all eyes be on starjockey Chad Schofield who has a full book of rides.

Chad Schofield

Chad Schofield has nailed eleven wins from his lasteight meetings and he needs only four more winners to equal his personal bestfor a season. Schofield is 12/1 to ridefour or more winners at Happy Valley on Wednesday. He will start theday on the quietly-fancied Aurora Steed in the 11:45 opener.

However, surely the mount he is most looking forwardto getting his leg over is the John Moore-trained Above in the feature1m 3f handicap at 12:45. Championship leadingjockey, Joao Moreira would usually take this ride but he is suspended, andSchofield would be delighted to take advantage of Moreira’s misdemeanours witha victory here.

The New Zealand-bred gelding was a bit of a slowlearner (it took him eleven starts to win a race) but he is really hitting hisstraps now, and he cruised to a six-length win last time. He will take plentyof stopping in Wednesday’s showpiece.

Neil Callan

One Hong Kong-based rider who UK punters will need nointroduction to is Irishman Neil Callan, and the Grade 1 winning riderhas seven rides at Happy Valley on Wednesday.

Onewho catches the eye is Speedy Luck in the 6f handicap at 12:15. The five-year-oldwent into a few notebooks when sneaking into fifth as an unfancied 33/1 pop atSha Tin earlier in the month. If he can build on that then he could reward aneach-way wager, and he certainly has the right jockey for the job. Callan is 2/1 to ridea winner on the card.
