Tuesday’s Race of the Day: We preview the 14:00 at Doncaster

There’s action from Musselburgh, Chepstow and Leicester on Tuesday, but our Race of the Day comes from Doncaster, where 14 runners are set to line-up for a 6f Handicap at 14:00.
Course and distance winner Ice Lord looks set to be among the main contenders after a solid comeback run to finish third at Newmarket earlier this month. He hasn’t won since 2018 but has fallen to his joint-lowest weight since 2017 and should be in with a shout.
It’s a similar story for fellow market leader Wentworth Falls, who hasn’t gotten his head in front in 21 attempts, that despite going close in some hot 6f Handicaps, including when touched off at York last season.
He’s had two runs already in this campaign, and after running on well to finish second on his most recent appearance over 5f at Ayr, could now be the time he finally rediscovers that winning feeling?
Admirality is another who often struggles to get over the line ahead of the rest, and while he’ll strip fitter for a run at Newcastle at the start of the month, we think he’s better suited to 7f than the 6f on offer here.
Keeping with the theme, Muscika hasn’t tasted much success over the last few years but could do better off a winning mark of 85. He’s dangerously weighted and has a kind draw which should allow him to go close.
The same probably cannot be said of Flying Pursuit, who often needs a run to get going and acts best with cut in the ground. Trainer Tim Easterby isn’t in the best of form either which further detracts from his cause.
Triggered is much more interesting for Mark Loughnane after the four-year-old stayed on to defy odds of 25/1 on debut for his new yard at Haydock three weeks ago.
He’s still lightly raced and is much less exposed than his more experienced rivals, which means that with further improvement, the Dandy Man gelding is capable of putting in another strong showing here.
Fighting Irish, on the other hand, finished 2¾l behind the winner of the Commonwealth Cup in 2018 but has failed to fire for a long time since. He’s on an attractive weight but needs rain to get involved.
That’s of no such to concern to The Great Heir, who has a win and a runner-up berth to his name from two runs at Doncaster. He’s only 1lb higher than his last winning mark but will need to run much better than on his seasonal reappearance at Redcar last week.
Princess Power is another course and distance winner who catches the eye thanks to the booking of Silvestre De Sousa, while Citron Major is on a winning mark and can get involved if he settles, unlike at Redcar recently.
Flavius Titus, Athollblair Boy, Corinthia Knight and The Cruising Lord make up the reminder, with the latter boasting each-way claims back down in grade having taken on much tougher assignments recently.
