Nadal and Sharapova to entertain the crowds on Arthur Ashe

The Arthur Ashe court hosts some impressive names on the second day of the US Open, none more so than Rafael Nadal who is seeking his first US Open Grand Slam title.

The Spaniard faces up to Teymuraz Gabashvili at around midnight tonight and will be confident of progressing into the second round having never lost to the Russian in two meetings, beating him in straight sets on both occasions.

Nadal, 3/1 to win the tournament, is unbackable at 1/100 but a little more value can be found in 1/6 for Nadal to win in straight sets.

The spectators on Arthur Ashe will witness an all-Serbian encounter when Novak Djokovic squares up to Victor Troicki at 6.00pm, and Troicki will be hoping for a reversal of the straight sets defeat he suffered to Djokovic just 13 days ago.

Djokovic and Troicki have met five times in their career, Troicki has the one victory to Djokovic’s four but Djokovic is unbeaten against his fellow countryman on the hard courts and is 1/9 to victor again today.

However Djokovic does have a habit of starting tournaments slowly and Troicki is 5/1 to win the tie but the value can be found in the set betting where Djokovic is 9/4 to win in four.

Women’s top seed, Caroline Wozniacki, is in action against American wildcard Chelsey Gullickson and is 1/50 to progress into the second round.

Gullickson is an unknown quantity but playing in front of her home crowd on the main court may provide her with the confidence needed to take the game to Wozniacki and she is 11/2 to win the first set.

The American crowd will be looking forward to Maria Sharapova’s first round tie against Austrian Jarmila Groth and after Andy Roddick and Venus Williams strong performances yesterday, they will be hoping for the same from Sharapova – 2/5 to win in straight sets.

No major scalps at Flushing Meadows yesterday and it’s hard to see any happening today. See the full US Open tennis betting market here.
