14:30 Royal Ascot: Market watch will prove profitable in Chesum Stakes
Published:It’s the beginning of the end to a wonderful week of racing at Royal Ascot and the Chesum Stakes is a great way to start the final day’s racing at Ascot.
These two-year-old’s will compete over seven furlongs in a real stiff stamina test for the juveniles and punters will be able to witness the future stayers of the Flat, although it doesn’t make for easy betting reading.
Most of these entries are late starters and so there isn’t much form to go on with many making either their second or third start of their career, but there are a few trends that we can look at.
Fillies have a poor record in this race having won just two of the last ten renewals so it’s a surprise to see two of the five fillies in the race heading the betting.
Maybe and Falls Of Lora are the two market leaders and they can both boast wins in solid maidens.
Aidan O’Brien and Ryan Moore team up on Maybe and you can guarantee plenty of support for the two-year-old on the day, but the O’Brien/Moore pairing has already been pipped by a Godolphin runner this meeting and connections will hope Falls Of Lora can upset the odds.
Another negative against Maybe is that there hasn’t been an winning Irish horse of this race since 1999 and punters will find seven of these 16 runners are Irish.
12 of the last 14 winners came out of the first four in the betting, but considering three of the first four in the betting are either female or Irish, punters are left with Peter Chapple-Hyam’s Telwaar.
A winner in a maiden at Doncaster on his last start means Telwaar comes to Ascot in good form and he looks one to follow.
It’s a difficult race to predict and punters are better off following the money on Saturday.
