Allan Johnston hails his ‘Premiership’ Dunfermline squad

A Scottish Cup exit to a side two divisions above you is nothing to be down about, and it’s a measure of Dunfermline’s progress this season that they felt disappointed in losing to Ross County.

County progressed through Raffaele De Vita’s second-half effort in a 1-0 win at East End Park, after Dunfermline fought admirably for a 2-2 draw at Dingwall on Saturday.

The result means the Pars can solely focus on securing the Ladbrokes League 1 title this season, a feat they are heavy odds on for at 1/33.

Despite the disappointment at seeing their Cup challenge come to an end, Dunfermline boss Allan Johnston had plenty to be pleased about.

“The boys showed their quality by the way they passed the ball and dominated it for large parts of the game,” the Scot said.

“We looked the Premiership team tonight.”

The Pars have scored for fun at times this term, but their luck ran out against Jim McIntyre’s County.

“I think over the two legs we were the team that deserved to go through,” Johnston explained.

“We were definitely on the front foot. The only criticism I could maybe have is we never took our chances.”

Turning their attention back to league matters, Dunfermline welcome Albion Rovers to East End Park this weekend.

The Pars – who hold a nine-point lead at the League 1 summit – are 2/7 favourites to grab a sixth straight league win.

The visitors are 7/1 outsiders, while a draw can be backed at 17/4 with Ladbrokes.

Johnston’s men have already defeated Albion this term at home, claiming a 3-0 win in October and a repeat scoreline is 7/1.
