France vs Mexico – France can reignite hopes with win

France have never lost to Mexico, and in six meetings between the sides, the French have been victorious on five occasions.
Recent form is on France’s side as well. Raymond Domenech’s side have lost only two of their last 13 matches, whereas Mexico have lost the same amount in their last five fixtures.
In a tight Group A, and tighter still World Cup, this could be a low-scoring affair. Both sides are expected to approach the match cautiously, and a French 1-0 win is 5/1.
Doubts about France’s chances were quick to resurface after their opening 0-0 stalemate with Uruguay, but there is an element of déjà vu about dismissing such a talented group of players.
France demonstrated to everyone at the 2006 World Cup how dangerous it is to disregard their chances at a major tournament.
Little was expected of France in Germany, yet they were only a penalty shoot-out away from winning a second World Cup.
And with a squad similarly brimming with genuine world class players, France could impress against Mexico. Nicolas Anelka is one such player and he is 5/1 to score first.
Florent Malouda was controversially dropped for the draw with Uruguay and, if the Chelsea midfielder is restored to the starting line-up, he could be worth backing at 9/1 to open the scoring.
