South Africa vs Uruguay – teams announced

Published:

South Africa are 11/5 to record their first win of the World Cup when they take on Uruguay at 7.30pm.

The hosts’ coach, Carlos Alberto Parreira, has again opted for a 4-5-1 formation as he names a side which is unchanged from the opening day 1-1 draw with Mexico.

As a result, Katlego Mphela – 7/1 to score first – continues as a lone forward, with Steven Pienaar – 10/1 to open the scoring – in support.

Uruguay hand a first World Cup start to Palermo forward Edison Cavani. He is expected to start in a deeper, wider position than star strikers Diego Forlan and Luis Suarez.

The confirmed starting line-ups are:

South Africa: Khune; Gaxa, Mokoena (Captain), Khumalo, Masilela; Tshabalala, Modise, Letsholonyane, Dikgacoi, Pienaar; Mphela

Uruguay: Muslera; Fucile, Lugano (Captain), Godin, M. Pereira; A. Pereira, Perez, Arevalo Rios, Cavani; Suarez, Forlan
