Euro transfer news – Schalke edge closer to Raul capture

Published:

Schalke are close to completing the biggest transfer coup in the club’s history, as Real Madrid and Spain legend Raul nears a move to the Veltins-Arena.

With three Champions League and six La Liga titles to his name, Raul would bring a wealth of experience to a Schalke side who are 66/1 to win this season’s Champions League.

The 33-year-old forward is the all-time leading goalscorer for both Real Madrid and Spain, and he could prove to be an excellent addition to Felix Magath’s squad.

Wolfsburg midfielder Zvjesdan Misimovic is another reported transfer target for Schalke, who are also 7/1 contenders to win the Bundesliga.

Elsewhere in Germany, Nurnberg have snapped up Timmy Simons on a free transfer following the Belgium international’s departure from PSV Eindhoven.

3/1 Champions League favourites Barcelona, meanwhile, seem to be cooling their interest in Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas.

Manager Pep Guardiola doubts that the Catalan club have sufficient transfer funds to bring the Spain midfielder to the Nou Camp, though they are likely to reignite their interest in the future.

Barca’s La Liga rivals Sevilla (33/1 to win the title) have been boosted by their striker Luis Fabiano’s decision to commit his future to the club.

The 29-year-old, who featured for Brazil at the World Cup, has been heavily linked with a move to AC Milan and a clutch of English clubs, but he is now negotiating a contract extension with Sevilla.

Real Zaragoza have signed goalkeeper Leo Franco on a two-year deal, after the Argentina international’s contract expired at Galatasaray.
