Martin Jol rejects Fulham job in last minute change of heart
Published:Martin Jol has turned down the chance to become Fulham manager, and has instead opted to stay with Ajax.
Cardiff City manager Dave Jones is now the 5/2 favourite to take the Craven Cottage hot seat.
Jol had reportedly agreed personal terms with Fulham, but the former Tottenham manager appears to have had a late change of heart.
“Ajax let me know they didn’t want me to go,” Jol said. “And I don’t think I can bring myself to leave Ajax at this time.”
Ajax are said to have convinced Jol to stay by promising him that funds will be made available for him to build on last season’s second place finish in the Eredivisie.
First-team coach Ray Lewington is temporarily in charge of Fulham at the moment, and the former Watford boss is 33/1 to become the next permanent Fulham manager.
At 5/2, Jones seems like a good bet to take the helm at Fulham, and the Cardiff manager has worked minor miracles on a minimal budget during his five years in South Wales.
Jones, however, will face stiff competition for the job, as ex-West Ham managers Alan Curbishley and Gianfranco Zola are 8/1 and 10/1 to take charge at Craven Cottage.
Sven-Goran Eriksson, meanwhile, has long been linked with the post, and he is still in contention at 9/2.
Finland coach Suart Baxter is another front-runner at 6/1, while USA boss Bob Bradley is 7/1 to land his first job in the Premier League.
