Paraguay vs Spain – teams announced

Published:

Paraguay manager Gerardo Martino has made sweeping changes to the side which beat Japan on penalties, while Vicente Del Bosque has stuck with the same eleven who started for Spain against Portugal.

Spain are 4/9 favourites to win the match, which kicks off at 7.30pm, in normal time, while Paraguay are 7/1 to come out victorious after 90 minutes.

La Roja keep faith with misfiring Fernando Torres, who has yet to score at these Finals, and go with David Villa out wide on the left. Villa is 11/4 to score first.

Sergio Busquets keeps his place as a holding midfielder alongside Xabi Alonso.

The South Americans make six changes to the team which started in the round-of-16 tie with a completely different attack to the one which drew a blank against the Asians.

Oscar Cardozo comes in for Roque Santa Cruz, Nelson Valdez replaces Lucas Barrios, and Edgar Barreto comes in for Edgar Benitez, indicating a change in formation yet again for Paraguay, from 4-3-3 to 4-4-2.

Cardozo is 11/1 to score first, while Valdez is 14/1 to do the same.

Elsewhere Dario Veron is in for Carlos Bonet, the suspended Victor Caceras returns and Jonathan Santana replaces Enrique Vera.

The confirmed starting line-ups are:

Paraguay
Villar (Captain), Veron, Morel, Alcaraz, Da Silva, Riveros, V. Caceres, Santana, Barreto, Valdez, Cardozo

Spain
Casillas (Captain), Pique, Puyol, Ramos, Capdevila, Busquets, Xavi, Alonso, Iniesta, Villa, Torres
