Transfer news – Celtic complete swoop for Cardiff’s Ledley
Wales midfielder Joe Ledley has completed his free transfer from Cardiff City to Celtic, after agreeing a four-year contract with the Glasgow giants.
The 23-year-old had also held talks with Stoke City and Roma, but the lure of European football proved to be a deciding factor for the Cardiff academy product.
14/1 to clinch the Championship title this season, Cardiff will be disappointed with Ledley’s choice, as his cross-border move means that the Welsh club will not receive any compensation from Celtic.
The clear-out continues at Fratton Park, meanwhile, as Portsmouth have confirmed that their central midfielder Papa Bouba Diop has joined AEK Athens for an undisclosed fee.
With Nadir Belhadj having already relieved the club of his hefty wage packet after moving to Qatar, Portsmouth are gradually edging themselves towards financial stability, and they are 16/1 to finish top of the Championship.
10/1 title contenders Burnley are believed to be close to signing Newcastle’s 22-year-old goalkeeper Fraser Forster, who spent last season on loan at Norwich.
The Clarets’ manager Brian Laws is keen to add to his squad having failed with bids for Cardiff City’s Peter Whittingham and Doncaster’s new signing Billy Sharp.
In League Two, Aldershot have completed the signing of the brilliantly named Manny Panther, who joins on a free transfer following his release by Exeter City.
And Stockport (28/1 to win the League Two title) have appointed former Preston and Carlisle manager Paul Simpson, who was sacked by Shrewsbury last season after failing to guide them to the League Two play-offs.
