Transfer news – Joe Cole linked with Liverpool move

| 18.07.2010

Now out of contract with Chelsea, Joe Cole has previously been linked with a move to one of London’s other big clubs – specifically Arsenal or Tottenham.

But reports this weekend suggest that he might yet forsake his supposed desire to stay in the capital, and head up to Merseyside, with Liverpool keen to make the England international Roy Hodgson’s first big signing for the club.

Along with a large signing on fee, they will offer the midfielder £90,000 for the next three years.

After last season’s shocker, Liverpool will obviously be keen to stop the rot, and at least maintain their status as one of the Premier League’s Big Four clubs.

And Joe Cole would bring some much-needed winning experience to the side, having won the Premier League title three times with Chelsea, as well as enjoying a top four finish in each of his seven seasons at the club.

As things stand, Liverpool are the fifth favourites to win the Premier League, with odds of 14/1. Or as runners up, with tempting odds of 7/1.

But a much more likely scenario would be a return to the top four, which finds the Merseyside team with odds of 6/4 to finish inside the top four, or 1/2 not to.

History would certainly suggest a Champions League spot, being that Liverpool haven’t gone consecutive seasons without a top four finish since 1994.
