Transfer news – Suarez moots move to Premier League with Spurs

Published:

Luis Suarez has opened the door for English suitors by declaring his admiration for the Premier League and saying it is the strongest in the world.

Harry Redknapp will be particularly eager to speak with the Uruguay striker after he pinpointed White Hart Lane as a potential destination.

“Tottenham hold appeal,” Suarez said. “They are a team with great ambition and have done well to reach the Champions League.”

Spurs are currently 28/1 to win the league title and the addition of the Ajax goal-getter would boost both their hopes of improving on last season’s fourth place.

The 23-year-old enjoyed an excellent season in the Eredivisie, scoring 35 league goals for the club and over 50 in all competitions.

Such goals would be useful to an already decent frontline which bagged 67 goals in the Premier League last term but will be shorn of Robbie Keane, probably to Aston Villa.

Spurs are 7/1 to win the Carling Cup.

In being skillful but also robust, he would add something different to the nimble Jermain Defoe, lanky Peter Crouch and hit-and-miss Roman Pavlyuchenko.

Suarez underlined his top-class calibre by scoring three goals for Uruguay in the World Cup as they reached the semi-final stage before falling 3-2 to Holland.

With Spurs taking part in their first ever Champions League campaign this season, the addition of a player like Suarez would suggest Redknapp’s team will do more than just make up the numbers. They are 33/1 to win the whole thing.

As if to illustrate Tottenham’s intent, the club are also closing in on a £6m deal for Manchester City winger Craig Bellamy.

Everton are also interested in the Welshman but are struggling to match Tottenham’s offer, suggesting a domestic cup double for the London team (40/1) may not be beyond the realms of possibility.

Will Harry’s spending see Spurs win some silverware come next May. He did it with Portsmouth and is 8/1 to win the FA Cup with Tottenham. See the full Tottenham Hotspur Specials market.
