Zvonareva will struggle to win, but she will take games

Of course, Serena Williams will go into the match as the overwhelming favourite, and bar an epic upset, she looks set to win another Wimbledon title.

Zvonareva, however, will be looking to take a fair few games from the favourite.

The pair have met on six occasions over the years, with the most notable head-to-head coming in the final of the Family Circle Cup in 2008, which found Serena Williams winning in three sets – 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.

Were a similar result reached on this meeting, you can find odds of Zvonareva taking the second set from Williams at 3/1. Whilst the odds of a three set match are 6/4.

Serena hasn’t won the Wimbledon title without dropping a single set since 2002. She is yet to drop one this time around.

Interestingly, she has dropped the first set in three of her five Wimbledon finals. Zvonareva’s odds of adding a fourth first set loss to that record are 3/1.

Historically, the last twenty years have found 49 sets played in Wimbledon Ladies finals, with the losing player averaging 4.1 games/set, whilst Serena Williams averages a loss of 4.9 games/set when she’s one of the finalists.

These figures would suggest that the match could easily excede 20 games – the odds of the match stretching over the 20.5 game mark are 4/5.
