Ivanovic meets Peer at San Diego with revenge in mind

Former French Open champion Ana Ivanovic will have revenge on her mind when she takes on Shahar Peer at the Mercury Insurance Open in San Diego.

Peer has won both previous meetings between the players, including a straight sets win at Wimbledon this year, and the Israeli player is 4/7 to win again.

Despite being 43 places below her opponent at 60th in the world, Ivanovic is, however, arguably the player with the better big tournament pedigree, with eight career titles to Peer’s five.

Still only 22 years old, Ivanovic has already been world number one, and the Serbian player is very enticingly priced at 5/4 to kick-start her tournament with a win against Peer.

In another clash featuring two players who will fancy their chances of winning the Mercury Insurance Open, Marion Bartoli is 4/7 to beat Daniela Hantuchova.

Bartoli, a former Wimbledon finalist, is currently ranked 20th in the world, seven places ahead of her 27-year-old opponent.

Hantuchova, however, has won three of the last four matches between the two, and the tall Slovakian is 5/4 to win.

Wimbledon finalist Vera Zvonareva, meanwhile, faces Dominika Cibulkova. Ranked number nine in the world, Zvonareva is a player in fine form and she is convincingly priced at 2/7 to beat her Slovakian opponent.

Cibulkova, however, could be a threat at 5/2 to win. When the world number 42 last played Zvonareva, she gave the Russian player a stern test and was unlucky to lose 7-5 6-4.

The Mercury Insurance Open opens in San Diego with plenty of scope for an upset. Kateryna Bondarenko is 11/4 to beat Flavia Pennetta. See the full Pennetta vs Bondarenko Match Betting Odds market.
