Liverpool to send unsettled Aquilani out on loan

Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson says that midfielder Alberto Aquilani could be loaned out to a club in Italy.

Aquilani was not named in the Liverpool squad for their Europa League qualifying 1-0 win against Trabzonspor, and Hodgson has confirmed that this decision was taken with a loan move in mind.

“At the moment we are considering loaning him to an Italian club,” Hodgson confirmed after the first leg against Trabzonspor. “I didn’t want to use him tonight in case the loan move goes through.”

Had Aquilani featured for Liverpool against Trabzonspor, he would have been unable to represent any other club in European competition this season.

Liverpool are 9/1 to win the Europa League, but Aquilani does not seem to feature in Hodgson’s first team plans.

A spate of injuries and subsequent lack of first-team action has seen Aquilani struggle to settle at Anfield since signing from Roma for £20m last summer.

One of the clubs rumoured to be interested in signing Aquilani on loan is Juventus, who are also taking part in the Europa League. Juve are 14/1 to win the competition.
