Murray next in line for on-fire Nalbandian
Published:Andy Murray will have to be at his best if he is to avoid becoming the latest seed to fall victim to David Nalbandian’s passage through the Rogers Cup draw.
The Argentine has already knocked out David Ferrer, Tommy Robredo and Robin Soderling en route to the quarter finals in Toronto to continue the form he showed when beating Marcos Baghdatis to win the recent Legg Mason Tennis Classic.
Nalbandian has also emerged triumphant in both of his previous showdowns with Murray, with the most recent coming in 2008 at the BNP Paribas Masters on the ATP Tour.
He is 8/11 to complete the hat-trick and 2/1 to win in straight sets, as he did last time.
Murray failed to set the world alight when scrambling his way past Gael Monfils in the last round, but his style of taking the pace of the ball could prove particularly effective against Nalbandian.
He is evens to secure a spot in the semi finals to face either Rafael Nadal or Philipp Kohlschreiber.
On the other side of the draw, Roger Federer gains the chance to avenge his Wimbledon defeat against Tomas Berdych.
Berdych has enjoyed somewhat of a career renaissance this year, thanks to making the final at Wimbledon and the semi finals of the French Open.
Meanwhile, he also eliminated Federer from the Sony Ericsson Masters earlier in the year before losing out to Andy Roddick in the final.
Prior to the win in Miami, Berdych had lost in his previous eight meetings with the former world number one.
The Czech star is 7/4 to upset Federer for the third time this season and move into a semi-final clash with either Novak Djokovic or Jeremy Chardy.
Andy Murray is 8/1 to progress past David Nalbandian and go on to win the Rogers Cup for the second year in succession.
