Inter vs Atletico – Sneijder and Forlan ready for battle

Published:

Wesley Sneijder and Diego Forlan were two of the players to light up this summer’s World Cup and the pair will be expected to standout again as Inter Milan and Atletico Madrid do battle in the UEFA Super Cup final.

Sneijder has enjoyed a stellar year by being at the focal point of Inter’s marvellous treble last season of the Champions League, Serie A and the Italian Cup, before netting five goals at the World Cup as Holland made the final.

The playmaker is 7/1 to score the first goal in the clash in Monaco and help new Inter manager Rafa Benitez land his second trophy in a week.

Any suggestions that Inter would falter without Jose Mourinho at the helm were answered when Benitez watched his team beat Roma 3-1 in the Italian Super Cup and they are 10/11 to beat Atletico inside 90 minutes.

Meanwhile, it is 4/9 that they will lift the trophy and head into the next Serie A season full of confidence in their quest to gain a sixth successive domestic league title.

The majority of Atletico hopes fall on the shoulders of Forlan, who also scored five goals at the World Cup and was awarded the Golden Ball for being recognised as the player of the tournament.

His partnership in attack with Argentine Sergio Aguero was vital to Atletico winning the Europa League last season and his team are 3/1 to win in normal time and 13/8 to lift the trophy.

Forlan is 6/1 to break the deadlock, with Inter’s Diego Milito the 9/2 favourite.

The game represents the maiden appearance in the Super Cup for both teams and the first time they have ever faced each other competitively.

The Super Cup has been played as a single match final since 1998 and the Champions League winner has only won on five of these 12 occasions.

Atletico are 7/1 to win 1-0. See the entire correct score market.
